Brachioplasty

After losing several pounds of weight, excess skin can leave you looking larger than you really are. Some individuals have more elasticity in their skin than others, so their skin remains relatively tight after a drastic weight loss. For those whose skin does not remain tight after weight loss, it may be necessary to receive surgery because that is the only way to get rid of the skin. Many individuals end up with excess skin on their arms after weight loss, and without surgery it will remain there forever. After doing all of that hard work to loose weight, you deserve to look as good as you feel. If you have lost a large amount of weight, and now have large saggy arms, receiving brachioplasty (more commonly known as an arm lift) is the best way for you to remove that excess skin.

What to Expect

Brachioplasty is a serious procedure, and you should be absolutely sure that you need it before moving forward. Your plastic surgeon will be able to tell you whether or not you are a good candidate, and if you personally would benefit from either moderate or full brachioplasty. If you are not a good candidate for brachioplasty but want to remove excess arm fat, you may benefit from a different procedure such as arm liposuction.

When you go in for a consult with your plastic surgeon, you will discuss several aspects of the surgery including the details of the procedure, cost, risks, and desired results. There are several risks associated with brachioplasty, but most individuals are more concerned with the scars that will be left behind. After you receive brachioplasty, you will without a doubt have scarring. This is something that is unavoidable with brachioplasty, and you should come into the surgery expecting to have visible scars afterwards. If this is something you are not willing to accept, you need to reconsider receiving the procedure.

After your brachioplasty is complete you will be allowed to go home the same day, but you will need assistance for at least 24 hours. Your arms will be extremely sensitive after this procedure, and movement should be limited so that the incisions can heal properly. Everyone’s situation is different, and your surgeon will give you specific instruction on how to keep swelling down and care for yourself once you are at home.
