Dr. Aliano Messina began her extensive education by earning a bachelor’s degree with honors from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She then spent seven months working as a clinical trials associate at Pfizer’s world headquarters in Manhattan before going to medical school at Stony Brook University School of Medicine in New York, where she graduated first in her class. Dr. Aliano Messina earned several awards in medical school, including the Glasgow-Rubin Certificate of Achievement, Glasgow-Rubin Commendation, Merck Book Award, and the Marvin Kuschner Award. 

After medical school,Dr. Aliano Messina completed her first year of general surgery training at Stony Brook University Hospital followed by a two-year research fellowship at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group in New York. During her fellowship training, Dr. Aliano Messina published numerous papers in medical journals, presented at local, national, and international meetings, and presented over 100 poster presentations at various conferences. 

Additionally,Dr. Aliano Messina helped found a microsurgical simulation company, serving as a residency research coordinator for the group and growing the Academic Research Division. Upon completion of her research fellowship, she returned to Stony Brook University Hospital to finish her second clinical year of general surgery training. 

Dr. Aliano Messina went on to complete an integrated plastic surgery residency program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, where she trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery practices, aesthetic surgery, hand surgery, burn reconstruction, craniofacial reconstruction, and oncological reconstruction. 

When she’s not working,Dr. Aliano Messina enjoys spending time with her Texas-native husband, Jude, whom she married in her chief year of residency, as well as with her family and friends. Dr. Aliano Messina enjoys a wide variety of interests, including visiting museums, reading biographies, traveling, ballet, exercising, trying new restaurants, sporting events, history, and art.
