Breast Augmentation Plano TXWill I Have Breast Augmentation Scars?

There’s more than one method for inserting breast implants, and each method carries its own risk of scarring. The amount of scarring you end up with after recovery is complete is also dependent on how your body recovers naturally from scarring. Some patients may have barely visible scars, and others may tend to scare more easily.

Think about when you were a child and got a scar from falling off your bike or running into something and getting a cut. Maybe you tripped over the brick fireplace when you were 7 and got a bloody knee out of it. Do you still have the scar, or has it faded with time? If your scars last for a while or are particularly visible, you should expect the same behavior from your skin during your breast augmentation recovery.

Remember: Placing extra tension or stress on your breasts during recovery may aggravate the skin and cause more noticeable scarring. When your surgeon tells you to “take it easy” after your surgery, he means it!

You may want to ask your surgeon about the following techniques for reducing scarring and whether they might be appropriate for you:

  • Should I massage my scars once they soften?
  • Should I use silicone sheets over the scars?
  • How long should I avoid direct sun exposure?
  • Do lightening creams work to reduce scarring?

If you’re particularly concerned about the way your scars have healed, cosmetic surgeons can also revise the scar.

How Can I Ensure the Best Results from My Surgery?

It should come as no surprise that you shouldn’t do any heavy lifting immediately after your surgery. You can minimize the risks of breast augmentation by following your surgeon’s instructions carefully and refraining from vigorous activities for as long as he suggests is required.

Your doctor will usually advise that you don’t lift anything heavy for at least one to two weeks; however, you can take as long as you want to return to normal activities. Don’t assume that you can lift heavy things at the exact moment your surgeon suggests you should be healed. Listen to your body, particularly when it tells you that it needs a little more time to rest.

Breast Surgery, Augmentation, Implants, Lift & ReconstructionSome other ways you can experience the best possible breast augmentation recovery.

  • Stay on top of pain meds in the days after surgery
  • Sleep on your back with your post-operative bra
  • Move your arms gently to reduce post-operative discomfort
  • Massage your breasts as directed by your surgeon
  • Don’t take a shower for at least four days after surgery
  • Begin low-impact exercises no sooner than ten days after surgery

You can also ask your surgeon for his suggestions on post-operative care. After performing many surgeries, he’ll know better than anyone.

How Long Do I Need to Take Off Work?

Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, or you work outside the home, you’ll want to budget enough time for rest, renewal and recovery after your breast surgery. Remember that your breast augmentation results will depend on treating your body well after surgery, and this may mean taking anywhere from a few days to a few weeks off work.

Even if you feel absolutely fantastic the day after surgery, your surgeon will still recommend that you stay home for at least a few days.

Tip! If you’re a stay-at-home parent, you may want to schedule your surgery when the kids are in school. Don’t schedule your breast augmentation during the Christmas holidays when the house will be full of wild kids and holiday madness.

Breast augmentation surgery is an exciting cosmetic procedure, and you owe it to yourself to treat your body with as much care and concern as your cosmetic surgeon will during the actual surgery.
