men plastic surgery proceduresRemaining youthful is a wish that many women have, but it’s also something that men desire.  Particularly this is true in a world that values youth and beauty. In the last few years, more and more men have started seeking cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery to improve their appearance.

Although the majority of patients at the average plastic surgery office are women, the number of men seeking rejuvenation or surgery is growing. Most plastic surgeons are aware of the increase of interest for procedures on male patients. Surgeons have even started to feature surgical options like “daddy do-overs“, abdominal sculpting, and male breast reductions.

More Men are Getting Plastic Surgery

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) suggests an increase of more than 100% in the number of men seeking procedures between the years of 1997 and 2012. One of the reasons doctors suspect more men are seeking plastic surgery is because of a need to stay competitive in a crowded job market. With millions of young millennials entering the workforce, older workers are finding it tough to compete.

Many Types of Men Seek Out Plastic Surgery

Just like each female patient has a different vision for her plastic surgery, men also come to a surgeon’s office for different reasons. These reasons often have to do with their position in life. For example, one type of patient probably already looks quite handsome by today’s standards, but is interested in having an extra sharp jaw line and a rock-hard abdominal section. These men may seek out abdominal sculpting when time spent in the gym isn’t enough. They may also choose liposuction to create a more defined body.

Another type of patient is the career man who wants to remain competitive into his fortwhy are men getting plastic surgerys and coworkers the wrong idea about his ability to stay at the top of his game.

A final type of patient is the father who might adore his children, but who isn’t too fond of the “dad bod” that came along with raising kids. He’s tried to remain active in life, but he’s put on about 15 pounds. These men may seek out a male breast reduction, liposuction, and eyelid surgery.

What are the Top Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men?

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reveals that the following five cosmetic surgical procedures are the most popular for men:

  • Nose Reshaping
  • Eyelid Surgery
  • Liposuction
  • Male Breast Reduction
  • Facelift

Also, men also seek a variety of minimally invasive procedures like fillers and Botox. These procedures may be performed alongside major procedures as part of a daddy do-over.

The top five minimally invasive procedures for men (according to the ASAPS) include:

  • Botox
  • Laser Hair Removal
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Chemical Peel
  • Soft Tissue Fillers

Procedures That Feature Rapid Recovery Time

Some of the minimally invasive procedures like Botox and laser hair removal are options that can literally take place during a lunch break. With virtually zero recovery time required, minimally invasive procedures are popular among busy career men and fathers because they don’t require extensive downtime.

However, there are some moderately invasive procedures that are also quite impressive as far as their recovery requirements. For example, a jaw augmentation that features a hyaluronic acid like Juvederm helps the jaw and chin appear more angular for a more masculine appearance. This procedure only involves a recontouring injectable so the recovery time is usually just a single day.

Another procedure that features a surprisingly low recovery time is liposuction. It is very popular with men because of how effective the procedure is around the midsection where men often have problems with love handles and a “beer belly.” Recovery time for liposuction is just a few days; however, doctors recommend that men abstain from strenuous activity for about a month.
